Message from the Prez
Hello SABR faithful. As another Major League baseball season is about to begin , welcome to our new and improved Hemond AZ SABR Chapter website at azsabr.org.
We haven’t been dormant during this time of the coronavirus even though we haven’t had any regular meetings. Our officers have been hard at work designing this colorful site, which incorporates our updated chapter name and is populated right now by articles published elsewhere by some of our most cherished contributors.
But the door is now wide open to pieces, comments, and ideas from all of you, our members.
Send them to me at boomskie@aol.com we’ll make sure with a tad of editing and fact checking that it’s published. Our home page is your home page.
We’d love somebody to take on a history of the chapter, a history of the Cactus League, a history of baseball in Arizona, a history of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Arizona State, Arizona, Grand Canyon, etc. Even on Roland Hemond hisself. You get the idea. Those pieces don’t have to be long. Preferred length: 750 to 1,000 words. They will have a permanent place on our site.
Your thoughts and ideas about baseball at any level nationally will also be much appreciated.
The site will also provide news about future events.
As everyone gets their vaccinations things will open up again and we’ll find a way to stage our entertaining luncheon meetings where past guests like Roland, Bobby Freeman, Ed Lynch, Joe Garagiola, Bobby Grich, Bob Nightengale, Nick Piecoro and Steve Gilbert will rise again.
It’s a new season. It’s spring. Every team right now starts off as a potential World Series champion. There’s something magical in the air. (It’s not COVID!) Welcome back. Please contribute.
Barry M. Bloom
Good morning. I’m new to this chapter.
Prior to the pandemic, what kind of events or meetings did this chapter have?
Thanks,
Meg Minard
Hi Meg, Welcome
Prior to the Pandemic we got together once a month at the Eagles Buffet at Casino Arizona . We had guest speakers come and visit and make presentations or cover topics of interest. We also had spring training game get togethers as well. After the Pandemic we had a few ZOOM meetings. We are hopeful that we can resume in person get togethers sometime this summer.
If you have any thoughts or ideas for activities, or would like further information, please contact our Chapter President Barry Bloom via e mail at boomskie@aol.com
